The Society for Neuroscience Ottawa Chapter is hosting its first ever Brain and Mental Health Art Show, to be held at Grounded Kitchen and Coffeehouse at 100 Gloucester St, Ottawa, on March 9th from 6pm to 9pm. We, as graduate students and scientists, are interested in what people think of when they hear about the brain and mental health. The art show is open to people of all ages, education and employment, and is intended to inspire people to be creative and crafty while hopefully learning something about the brain.
In our inaugural year, we will be displaying 35 pieces of art from children, students, professors, and members of the public. These include paintings, sketches, photographs, videos, and even a knitted brain. We hope that this event will help raise awareness of mental health, reduce the stigma, promote creativity, and help you learn more about the brain.
Also feel free to view and distribute our posters for the general public and elementary schools for advertising the event.
Recently, the Society for Neuroscience Ottawa Chapter has partnered up with the Do It For Daron fund which is a local charity aimed at raising awareness about youth mental health and funding research in this field. As part of our collaboration with D.I.F.D. we have decided to fundraise at the Brain & Mental Health Art Show and donate all proceeds to D.I.F.D. Fundraising will include a silent auction of selected art pieces as well as the sale of bracelets.
